چکیده

The work in this report is motivated by the performance-based engineering approach advocated by PEER. A comprehensive, object-oriented software framework for finite element sensitivity and reliability analysis is developed. The work builds on the existing software OpenSees. An essential ingredient in finite element reliability analysis is accurate, consistent and efficient computation of response sensitivities. Using the direct differentiation method, a unified formulation of finite element response sensitivities with respect to material, load and shape parameters is developed and implemented. Shape sensitivity results allow inclusion of uncertainty in nodal coordinates in reliability analysis. The developed software framework is used to investigate and address challenges particular to nonlinear finite element reliability analysis. As a result, smoothed material models, modifications in existing search algorithms, and a search algorithm hitherto not used in reliability analysis are developed. The first-order reliability method and the importance sampling method are used for computing probabilities and mean out-crossing rates, the latter for dynamic problems. A User’s and Developer’s Guide for the sensitivity and reliability modules in OpenSees is developed. Several numerical examples, including a highway bridge used as a test-bed by PEER, are presented to demonstrate the new capabilities of the software.

Holistic Operations in Large-Scale Sensor Network Systems: A Probabilistic Peer-to-Peer Approach

Large-scale Sensor Networks Smart sensor nodes [14, 15] integrate multiple sensors (e.g., temperature, humidity, accelerometers), processing capability (microprocessor connected to the sensors using I2C technology), wireless communications, and a battery power source. Sensor nodes range around a few millimeters or smaller in size [11, 12]. Sensor nodes have low processing, memory and wireless c...

Asymptotically Efficient Approaches to Fault-Tolerance in Peer-to-Peer Networks

In this paper, we show that two peer-to-peer systems, Pastry [13] and Tapestry [17] can be made tolerant to certain classes of failures and a limited class of attacks. These systems are said to operate properly if they can find the closest node matching a requested ID. The system must also be able to dynamically construct the necessary routing information when new nodes enter or the network cha...

How Academic Achievement, Attitudes, and Behaviors Relate to the Course of Substance Use During Adolescence: A 6-Year, Multiwave National Longitudinal Study

Self-report data regarding alcohol, cigarette, and marijuana use were collected biennially from ages 14 to 20 in a nationally representative panel sample of adolescents (N5 1,897) from the Monitoring the Future study. Growth curve analyses were performed using hierarchical linear modeling to consider psychosocial background, motivation and school attitudes, and parental and peer influences at a...
